Joseph Thorne

Joseph Thorne was born in South Wales and grew up in Gwaelod-y-Garth, where he was fascinated by the ruins of the Lan mine and the other nineteenth-century industrial landmarks scattering the landscape. Now, with a PhD on late-Victorian literature and culture, he has researched the period extensively. His role as a committee member for the British Association for Decadence Studies and his attendance at conferences allow him to keep up with developments in the late-Victorian field. He is a published writer on the nineteenth century with a keen interest in film.

Norma Procter, MBE

Following study in London at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London University, Norma Procter spent a year in teacher training and teaching in London. She was part of the Voice and Speech faculty at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Her books Singing your Name, Daisy, Love is the Fire, Jew Boy and The House of Abraham Phillips are available from Amazon. She is an artist, and was awarded an MBE for environmental campaigning. She runs the Lan History Project and the Friends of Lan Memorial with Cardiff County Council, organising outreach with residents and the local school to ensure the history of the Lan is part of everyone’s education.

Christopher Monger

Christopher Monger has won awards for directing theatre, feature films, and screenwriting. He has directed eight feature films and written over thirty screenplays. His produced credits include: The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain for Miramax Films, starring Hugh Grant, Colm Meaney & Tara Fitzgerald; Waiting For The Light starring Shirley McLaine & Teri Garr; Crime Pays for Film Four International, starring Ronnie Williams & Veronica Quilligan; and Voice Over starring Ian McNeice. He also wrote the extraordinarily popular and record-breaking television film Seeing Red for Granada and WGBH, for which he received a Christopher Award, and wrote and directed Girl From Rio which won the Hollywood Film Festival. He is currently adapting Jonathan’s Harr’s The Lost Painting for Miramax Films. Apart from his film work, he still paints and is a member of the PHARMAKA group of painters in Los Angeles. He was born in Ffynnon Taf (Taff’s Well), Wales not far from the Lan Colliery. He currently lives in LA.

Steve Gough

Born in South Wales, Steve Gough is an experienced, BAFTA-winning film writer and director whose work has been highly praised here and around the world. He has also written successfully for radio and television, published two novels, and seen his work very recently produced on the stage. Over the years, his scripts have attracted major acting talents such as Anthony Hopkins, Martin Shaw, Jane Horrocks, Margaret John and Geraldine James.

Notable, critically acclaimed work includes the feature film Heartland for the BBC which won its star Anthony Hopkins a Radio Times best actor award, the BAFTAWALES winning feature Elenya which was Centrepiece Film at the London Film Festival, and the BAFTAWALES winning film drama Washed Up again for the BBC. His recent film Red Call has won a prize in the Wales Film Festival.

Steve Gough was born in Gwaelod-y-Garth, Wales. He now lives in London. His agent is Elizabeth Dench at Dench-Arnold Associates.

David Ball

David Ball is one of the most seasoned bondable producers/line producers in the industry. In a career spanning almost half a century, he has worked on thrillers, westerns, comedies, true life dramas, adventures and horror movies. To this day, thirty years on, he still signs autographs at horror conventions for the cult Day of the Dead. He has 100 hours of television under his belt. As well as producer and line producer, David has been a financial rep, production manager, 2nd unit director, 1st assistant director, financial controller and a production accountant. To say he knows production is an understatement. He has completed over 3000 budgets and schedules all to industry standard.

Gavin Hill-John has extensive management and leadership experience and a comprehensive understanding of finance with over 25 years in the corporate world. He is skilled in company start-up and development, and has a secure grasp of the public sector and its interactions with the private sector. His knowledge of local government is far-reaching.

Gavin has excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, especially at senior executive level. He is accustomed to tackling difficult issues and ensuring strong corporate governance. He has been an active participant in the Lan Memorial Project for six years.
